Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Breakout Crowd™ ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit breakoutcrowd.com, join our waitlist, or use a member account. We keep it simple: we only collect what we need, and we never sell your data. "Breakout Crowd" and the Breakout Crowd logo are trademarks of Breakout Crowd (trademark pending).

1. Information we collect

Waitlist. When you join the waitlist, we collect the information you choose to give us:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • What best describes you (e.g. founder, creator, investor), as optional context
  • Your agreement to these terms (we record that you consented)

Member accounts. If you create an account, we also collect and store:

  • Account details: your email and a securely hashed password, or your basic Google profile (name, email, profile photo) if you sign in with Google;
  • Profile details you add: display name, username, photo, bio, what you're building, your timezone (detected from your device, editable), and your preferred language;
  • Content you create: chat and crowd chat messages, direct messages, posts and votes on space boards, rooms you create or join, friend connections, and reports you file;
  • Moderation records: reports about your conduct and any resulting actions, such as bans.

Voice, camera, and screen sharing are live only. They're transmitted in real time through our real-time infrastructure provider and we do not record or store them.

Translation. If you tap "translate" on a chat message, the text of that message is sent to a third-party translation service to produce the translation. Only the message text is sent, never your account details, and only when you ask for a translation.

Crowder AI conversations. Breakout Crowd includes an AI assistant, Crowder AI. When you chat with it, the messages you type and limited context (such as your first name) are sent to our third-party AI provider to generate a reply. We do not store your Crowder AI conversations on our servers; the conversation lives only in your browser for that session and is gone when you close it. Because your text is processed by the AI provider to answer you, please don't share sensitive personal, financial, health, or confidential information, passwords, or other people's data with the assistant. Crowder AI has no access to our database or to other members' accounts or data.

Local storage. The app stores your login session and small preferences (like whether the sidebar is collapsed and which voice call you're in) in your own browser's storage. That data stays on your device.

2. Exactly which services touch your data

We believe in naming names. These are all of them, and what each one does:

  • Netlify hosts the website and runs our serverless functions, and processes waitlist form submissions. Like any host, it sees standard technical data such as IP addresses in its logs.
  • Supabase is our database and login system. It stores your account, profile, messages, posts, friendships, reports, and avatar images.
  • LiveKit carries live voice, camera, and screen-share streams between members in a room. Streams pass through in real time and are not recorded.
  • Kit (ConvertKit) stores waitlist signups and sends our emails to that list.
  • Google handles sign-in if you choose "Continue with Google," and serves the fonts used on the site (font requests expose your IP address to Google, as with any font CDN).
  • MyMemory (Translated) provides chat translation when you request it, as described above.
  • DeepSeek powers Crowder AI. When you message the assistant, the text you send and limited context (such as your first name) are sent to DeepSeek to generate a response. We do not send your account credentials, and we do not store the conversation. Your use of the assistant is also subject to DeepSeek's own terms and privacy practices.

What we do NOT use: no Meta or Facebook pixel, no Google Analytics, no TikTok pixel, no advertising trackers, and no data brokers. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first.

3. How we use your information

We use the information you give us to:

  • Add you to the waitlist and manage your place on it;
  • Email you about Breakout Crowd's launch, access, and important updates;
  • Create and run your account, rooms, chat, voice, friends, and Crowder AI features;
  • Keep the community safe: filtering explicit content, reviewing reports, and enforcing bans;
  • Understand who's interested so we can build the right thing;
  • Protect the Service against spam, abuse, and fraud.

We will not email you unrelated marketing, and we'll only contact you when it matters.

4. Legal basis

Where applicable law (such as the GDPR) requires it, we rely on your consent, given when you check the agreement box and submit the form, as the legal basis for processing your information. You can withdraw consent at any time (see "Your choices and rights" below).

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service: our website host, our form and email providers, our database and authentication provider, our real-time voice infrastructure, our translation provider, and our AI model provider (which powers Crowder AI). These providers are only permitted to use your data to provide their services to us. Content you post in a room is visible to that room's members; your profile is visible to other signed-in members; and the messages you send Crowder AI are shared with the AI provider only to generate your reply. We may also disclose information if required by law, or where needed to protect members, such as reporting content that endangers minors to authorities.

6. Data retention

We keep your waitlist information for as long as needed to operate the waitlist and contact you about launch, or until you ask us to delete it. Account information and content stay while your account is active. Deleting your account (Settings, then Delete my account) permanently removes your profile, messages, rooms, and friend connections. We may keep minimal moderation records where needed to enforce bans.

7. Your choices and rights

You can, at any time:

  • Unsubscribe from our emails using the link in any message;
  • Edit your profile or delete your account yourself from Settings;
  • Access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you;
  • Withdraw your consent to our processing.

To make any of these requests, email us at breakoutcrowd@gmail.com and we'll take care of it.

8. Cookies and browser storage

Breakout Crowd's site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may set essential cookies needed to serve the site securely. The app uses your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and remember interface preferences; that data stays on your device and you can clear it in your browser settings at any time.

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. International users

We and our service providers may store and process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred and processed in those locations with appropriate safeguards.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. If we make significant changes, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know.
